Strangely, Troy J Been's love of music evolved
from a passion for cricket!Following a trip to
the West Indies representing Australia his Dad
broughtback a stack of reggae 45s that ignited
his passion for vinyl, black musicand culture.
However Troy's taste was not well received by
some. In primaryschool, a conversation with his
Year 6 crush Sasha ended in heartbreak afterthe
Duran Duran-loving cutie mocked him for revealing
his favourite artists- Diana Ross and the Pointer
Sisters. Although it wasn't all bad news forTroy.
School thesbian Anthony started paying more attention
to him almostimmediately.
Unwaveringly passionate about otherworldly sounds,
it's the the fusion ofdisparate influences that
make Troy J Been's palate so potent. Representingall
flavours of the globe, from New York City Disco
to Brazilian Bossa Nova, the broken beats of London
to the Hi-Life of Nigeria, he's fiercelyindividual
and always eclectic. Troy's unique musical sets
deliver a nod tothe past while embracing the future.
Twisting and turning, never endingwhere he began,
it's about musical exploration and sharing his
discoveries.Catch Troy at Sugar, and you're sure
to uncover gems. If only Sasha knewwhat she was
missing.
