The Revenge AKA Graeme Clark

May 30 2009 - Exclusive to sugar!

Graeme is most well known in DJ and club circles for his mindblowing re-edits of Hot Chocolate’s “Heaven Is In The backseat Of My Cadillac,” Stevie Wonder’s “Love Light In Flight” and the amazing version Unfinished Business’ “Love Coming On” – all on the label that is also home to Mark E, Jisco.

The Stevie Wonder referencing “Night Flight” secured Graeme a place right at the top of Phonica’s favourite tracks for 2009 and DJ History’s furtive 50, 2009.

But the story began much earlier for this young Scot…

Graeme began producing in his early teenage years, making a skewed blend of electronic music using a couple of his dad’s old drum machines and a sampler. Influenced by his parents collection of rock, soul and funk as well as eighties daytime radio and the burgeoning rave scene, he began the process of dissecting and re-imagining the music. As a means to get some of these productions out, Graeme set up label Five20East in 1999 with brothers Scott and Ross Langley as an outlet for their own productions.

His own productions for Five20East and his DJ-only edits for L.E.S.S. Productions (one of the coolest labels around, releasing runs limited to 100 copies) have had across-the-board support from heavyweights including Danny Krivit, Jimpster, Radio Slave, Prins Thomas, Todd Terje, The Unabombers, SWAG, Gilles Peterson, Ashley Beedle, Kissy Sellout, Bill Brewster, Phil Asher, Tim Sweeney and many others.

DJ work over the years has included spots with Jimpster, Joe Claussell, Domu, Mark E, Mad Mats, Seiji, Yousef, Jeff Mills, Jazzy Jeff, MAW, Sinden, James Lavelle and more.

Graeme has also provided his engineering experience to several projects over the past few years and has recently mastered Harri & Domenic’s “20 Years Underground/Sub Club” mix for Soma as well as new material for Mark E, Jisco and Fine Art Recordings. His other collaborative projects include Deportivo Street Team, OOFT!, Cronk Family Enterprises, 6th Borough Project and The Hong Kong Micros.

Projects for 2009 will include releases on Instruments Of Rapture, Graeme’s new, vinyl-only label, a release with Craig Smith on Jimpster’s label, Freerange, an original track on Soul Heaven, a remix for Phonica’s new imprint, the debut single co-produced with Harri on Raoul Galloway’s Faith Fanzine label and, of course, new material on Five20East.

This is a really great time to explore the sounds of the The Revenge in Australia - he is one of the most talked about and played artists around.
